The new model is intended to bring together the dynamic qualities of an SUV, the elegance of a coupe and the functionality of a minivan, and will deliver excellent fuel economy and will include hybrid and petrol variants in Japan, with a 4WD option available for both.

Sitting under the CR-V in the line-up, the model will offer the brand’s “magic seats”, as well as 453-litre capacity boot.

For Japan, the engine line-up will include the SPORT HYBRID i-DCD model which combines a 1.5-litre direct-injection engine with a high-output motor to deliver power said to be equivalent to that of the 2.0-litre engine and fuel economy expected to be the highest in its class in Japan.

The hybrid will also feature Real Time All-Wheel-Drive (AWD), which controls torque distribution to the front and rear wheels more precisely through electronic control.

Honda added that the Vezel is due to be launched in Europe in 2015, but details on specifications, engine options and the model name are still to be confirmed.
