Jaguar confirms F-PACE crossover for 2016 launch
Announced at the Detroit Motor Show, the F-PACE is the production version of the C-X17 concept (pictured) and will enable Jaguar to challenge the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and X4, Lexus NX and Porsche Macan in what will be a vital sector for its growing fleet presence.
Technical details and the production-ready design will be revealed later this year, but Jaguar has confirmed that it will have five seats and feature the All Surface Progress Control function which enables the XE to gain traction on loose surfaces.
Expect a similar engine range to the XE, likely to include a two-wheel drive version using the new 2.0-litre Ingenium four-cylinder diesel and a supercharged V6 petrol at the top of the range. Production will take place at Jaguar’s factory in Solihull.
Ian Callum, director of design at Jaguar, said: ‘We received such an overwhelmingly positive response to the C-X17 concept car last year that we just had to make it a reality.
‘The Jaguar F-PACE, inspired by the F-TYPE, represents a perfectly judged balance of style, performance and practicality. It offers a unique combination of Jaguar sports car inspired exterior design, fused beautifully with a thoroughly practical and spacious luxury interior. The F-PACE is our family sports car.’
Jaguar Land Rover is already preparing for key fleet launches across both brands, growing its global dealer network with plans for 20-25% to include fleet and business centres. By 2020, the manufacturer wants 25% of its global sales to come from fleets, from 16% today.
