Jaguar to cull two more models ahead of EV-only reinvention

JLR is axing two further models from the Jaguar line-up ahead of its major transformation as an EV-only brand.

JLR told investors that the E-Pace SUV and the all-electric I-Pace SUV will be ditched

The E-Pace SUV and the all-electric I-Pace SUV will be ditched, following the end of production for the XE and XF saloons and sporty F-Type earlier this year. The move will leave just the F-Pace SUV on sale in 2025, although stock of the axed models will be available in the coming months.

JLR had already announced plans to cull the saloons and the F-Type in March but also revealed the departure of its compact and electric SUV in an investors meeting this week.

CEO Adrian Mardell told investors that all products were lower value and were “’close to zero profitability”, Automotive News Europe reported.

Jaguar has previously revealed plans to become an all-electric luxury brand from 2025 under its Reimagine strategy, which will see it “emerge” with a “dramatically beautiful new portfolio of emotionally engaging designs and pioneering next-generation technologies”.

It’s working on three new EVs, all underpinned by a new Jaguar Electrified Architecture (JEA) platform and spearheaded by the arrival of a four-door GT.

JLR reported its best annual profit since 2015 in the financial year ending 31 March, posting £2.2bn before taxes on record revenue of £29bn, thanks to the success of the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Land Rover Defender.

In the second quarter of 2024, Jaguar sold 15,324 cars, compared with 95,856 for Land Rover. The Jaguar F-Pace, the only model to survive the cull, was the biggest seller at 5,292 units and accounted for a third of Jaguar’s total.
