Jeep has revealed its Wagoneer S, the brand’s first global battery electric vehicle and a rival to the Tesla Model Y.

The high-end flagship arrives first in the US and Canada, where the Wagoneer badge is established. Follow-up launches will happen later in markets including Europe, where it will be the brand’s second battery-powered SUV after the Avenger.

It will be one of the first production models to sit on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, opening up various powertrain options.

First to arrive will be a four-wheel drive version using Stellantis-designed electric drive modules which combine the electric motor, gearing and power electronics into a single, compact unit. These will independently power the front and rear wheels for instant torque response, along with 600hp and a 0-60mph acceleration time of 3.4 seconds.

It will also feature Jeep’s Selec-Terrain traction management system with five driving modes: Auto, Sport, Eco, Snow, Sand.

The 100kWh battery pack uses 400V architecture to enable quick charging – full specs haven’t been revealed but Jeep says drivers will be able to charge the vehicle from 20% to 80% in 23 minutes with a DC fast charger.

Design has been conceived for a sleek, aerodynamic look that’s an “intelligent combination of harmonious proportions, modern 4xe capability and aerodynamic efficiency that reimagines the Jeep brand’s functional side for today’s electrification era”.

Debuting first, the US-only Launch Edition features black cues, reimagined seven-slot illuminated grille, 20-inch wheels and a standard dual-pane panoramic sunroof.

The cabin comes with various recycled resources and materials, and features a claimed segment-exclusive 10.25-inch front interactive passenger display along with a 12.3-inch driver cluster and 12.3-inch central touchscreen. It also includes premium heated and ventilated front and rear seats and a 19-speaker, 1,160-watt McIntosh audio system.

The Jeep Wagoneer S also includes Jeep Connect services as part of the Jeep app, which helps owners understand and access details, such as the vehicle’s available remaining charge.

More than 170 standard safety and security features will be available. Items on the Launch Edition include Active Driving Assist, Intersection Collision Assist, Drowsy Driver Detection, Traffic Sign Recognition and Surround View camera.

Additional automated driving and performance features along with other technologies will be enabled via over-the-air updates.

The Wagoneer S will be available in Jeep brand dealerships in US starting in the second half of 2024 and will launch later in markets around the world.
