Kia to launch crossover-inspired Picanto
Kia is to launch a softroader version of its third-generation Picanto supermini in Europe later this year.
Making its debut at Frankfurt, the Picanto X-Line will bring styling modelled on Kia’s Sportage and Sorento crossover and SUV models and featuring black cladding around the wheel arches and beefier bumpers with metal-look skidplates as well as increased ride height of 156mm – up by 15mm compared to the standard Picanto.
The new model will also include lime green detailing around the grille and fog lamps and interior contrast colour packs while equipment brings 16-inch aluminium alloys, LED daytime running lights and fog lamps, keyless entry and a 7.0-inch ‘floating’ touchscreen featuring navigation with 3D maps and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.
Power will come in the form of Kia’s 100hp three-cylinder 1.0-litre T-GDI turbo petrol engine – also seen in the Cee’d and Rio. Marking the first time the engine has been offered in the Picanto line-up, the unit will bring a 0-62mph time of 10.1 seconds along with a combined fuel consumption of 4.5l/100km and CO2 emissions of 104g/km (NEDC figures).
The Picanto is one of Kia’s best-selling vehicles and sold 31,827 units globally in the first half of 2017 – up 23%.
The all-new Picanto X-Line goes on sale across Europe during the fourth quarter of 2017.For more of the latest industry news, click here.
