LeasePlan and Avis launch European car-sharing fleet solution
The programme will initially be implemented within PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Luxembourg and will provide more than 2,000 employees access to a fleet of vehicles for car sharing through an online booking system. These vehicles will be available for daily business commuting and for all the mobility needs of the programme’s participants.
With transport accounting for about 70% of the carbon footprint of PwC Luxembourg, this initiative is one of the first steps of the firm’s global mobility approach to reduce its transport-related carbon emissions. Traffic congestion, pollution and lack of parking slots are everyday challenges when thinking about mobility.
‘By providing flexible mobility solutions such as electric car sharing and by encouraging alternative means of transport, including city buses and soft mobility, we’re going a step further in our commitment to reduce our carbon emissions as a responsible leader,’ said Patrice Waltzing, partner at PwC in charge of managing the firm’s car fleet.
For its part, LeasePlan has proven once again their innovative approach when it comes to serving its clients. Vahid Daemi, chief executive officer of LeasePlan, stated: ‘We are pleased to team up with Avis to be able to provide a different type of fleet service to clients such as PwC. With today’s challenging economic situation, this car sharing plan allows many businesses the opportunity to meet their business transportation and mobility needs in an efficient and environmentally-friendly way.’
PwC will select from a variety of electric and low-emission vehicles, including the Nissan Leaf, Renault Twizy, Peugeot 208 and Opel Zafira. Additional electric vehicles may be added in the near future as demand grows. This represents yet another method whereby LeasePlan helps its customers in adopting greener mobility solutions.
Avis will handle the specific car-sharing portion of the programme with its “Avis on Demand” solution. As specialists in short-term rental solutions, Avis will manage the bookings, access to the cars, and the follow-up service to ensure the vehicles remain in proper condition. The new car sharing solution starts in Luxembourg but may eventually extend to other parts of Europe.
