Mazda has revealed its second-generation CX-5 compact crossover, which introduces updated design and new technologies including G-Vectoring Control and head-up display.

Unveiled in the run up to the Los Angeles Auto Show, the new CX-5 places focus on responsive performance as well as passenger comfort.

The previous-generation CX-5 – currently Mazda’s best-selling model in Europe – was the first Mazda to adopt the ‘Kodo – Soul of Motion’ design language and the latest model brings evolutionary updates including revised headlights.

It also brings changed dimensions, with the front and rear tracks 10mm wider than before while it sits lower. The A-pillars have been moved 35mm rearwards.

Other changes see the introduction of G-Vectoring Control – first introduced on the Mazda6 and Mazda3 – which varies engine torque to optimise the load on each wheel, plus a windscreen head-up display – one of the first in its class – and a remote-controlled power tailgate.

Full engine details have not been released but the global range covers two petrol engines – the SKYACTIV-G 2.0 and SKYACTIV-G 2.5 – and the SKYACTIV-D 2.2 diesel, with all three said to deliver “outstanding real-world fuel economy and remarkably low emissions”.

The all-new CX-5 will go on sale in February in Japan prior to its roll-out in other markets around the world.
