Mercedes has given an insight into its upcoming Van Electric Architecture (VAN.EA) with the debut of its Vision V luxury limo concept.

The new modular, flexible and scalable VAN.EA platform is due from 2026, marking the next stage of the brand’s electrification strategy and specifically designed for midsize and large vans.

Mercedes says the architecture allows for a clear differentiation between commercial vans in the premium segment and privately positioned van-based MPVs in the luxury segment, with the latter ranging from practical family-focused models to exclusive VIP shuttles and luxurious limousines with a special focus on the “private lounge”.

Dubbed the “dawn of a new era”, the Vision V “provides a glimpse” of the top-end version, intended to carve out a new segment of luxury limousines.

It’s focused around a spacious open interior design with “lounge character and the utmost comfort”. It’s accessed by a large, automatically opening “portal” door on the right-hand side and features an illuminated, retractable running board. An intelligent, switchable glass wall separates the “private lounge” from the driver’s area and can be switched from transparent to opaque, either completely or in sections, at the touch of a button, as can the floor slats and the windowpanes.

The immersive lounge also features a retractable 65-inch 4K resolution cinema screen, game controller for racing games, surround-sound system with 42 speakers and seven projectors for an immersive user experience. The centre console between the two individual seats is also designed as a display cabinet.

The lounge also blends traditionally crafted materials with hyper-modern, tech-savvy design elements and includes crystal white Nappa leather and shimmering white silk.

The sporty, elegant exterior teams up a “low silhouette with innovative aesthetics” for an aerodynamic look that hints at the design and driving experience of all future MPVs from Mercedes-Benz.

The 24-inch wheels feature illuminated louvres and the large rear window is framed by over 450 three-dimensional illuminated louvres, which serve as taillights and brake lights.

The first models from the new VAN.EA range are due in 2026.
