The styling closely follows the Outlander Concept S shown at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, including longer rear lights and a more aggressive front end lined with chrome.

Mitsubishi is claiming reduced noise levels while driving, as well as improvements to ride, handling and throttle response and a revised interior, which are set to be applied to the European Outlander and Outlander PHEV within the next year.

The Outlander PHEV has been a globally very important car for Mitsubishi. Production increased by 66% to 50,000 during the 2014 financial year, compared to 2013, following stronger-than-expected global demand and the car has yet to launch in North America.

Over half (51.2%) of the 38,617 Outlanders sold in Europe last year were the PHEV, led by the Netherlands at 7,666 units. In the UK, the model was a significant part of Mitsubishi's 52% increase in sales year-on-year, and has just become the country's biggest selling plug-in vehicle with 10,000 units sold less than a year after launch.
