New BMW X3 brings latest digital and driver assistance tech
BMW’s third-generation X3 will bring updated engines as well as latest driver assistance and connectivity functionality when it launches later this year.
Up to 55kg lighter than its processor, the latest X3 will offer three petrol and two diesel engine models from launch – depending on the market – including the 360hp M40i – the model’s first M Performance Automobile. Official combined fuel consumption range from 8.4 to 5.0 l/100 km with CO2 emissions of 132-193g/km and all models come with the eight-speed Steptronic transmission as standard.
Three trim levels will be offered – xLine, the new Luxury Line and M Sport – and bring new equipment options including three-zone automatic climate control, the Ambient Air package, active seat ventilation, the cargo function of the standard 40:20:40 split/folding rear seat backrests and the panoramic glass roof.
Onboard tech includes the optional BMW Display Key seen on the BMW 5 Series and 7 Series, which can notify the driver of fuel levels and any service or maintenance work due, operate the heating and let them know if the windows and sunroof are closed.
The X3 also brings BMW Connected functionality, enabling integration with devices such as smartphones and smartwatches, while gesture control is also on offer plus optional Voice Assistant.
The third-generation X3 also introduces the new BMW CoPilot driver assistance systems, which include the Active Cruise Control and Driving Assistant Plus safety package, which brings Steering and lane control assistant, Lane Change Assistant and Lane keeping assistant with side collision protection. Head-up display is also available.
