New Jaguar XE to include cutting-edge driver aids & infotainment system
Set to make its world premiere in London on 8th September, the new XE will be the first Jaguar to feature the new InControl infotainment system (see video here). The system is designed around an 8-inch touchscreen and allows users of iOS and Android smartphones to connect to the car from wherever they are and control a range of vehicle functions. These include seven-day timed pre-setting of the XE’s climate control system, locking or unlocking the doors, or starting the engine.
Meanwhile Jaguar InControl Apps allows users to seamlessly access smartphone apps through the vehicle’s touchscreen, making it easy to do everything from make a conference call, find a parking space or book a hotel room.
And the XE also functions as a Wi-Fi hotspot, enabling multiple devices to connect to the internet.
Jaguar has also revealed the new XE will feature an array of advanced driver assistance systems, including laser head-up display, which has been designed to provide the driver with information such as speed and navigation instructions with maximum clarity and minimum distraction.
As previously revealed, the rival to the 3 Series will be built on an all-new, aluminium-intensive architecture and will use the new Ingenium family of lightweight diesel and petrol turbocharged engines that are expected to deliver sub-100g/km emissions and will also support hybrid drive systems
It will also feature a world-first in the form of the All Surface Progress Control system, which ensures rear-wheel drive traction from standstill even in extreme conditions
The new model uses double wishbone front suspension derived from the F-TYPE and including some key components designed to deliver Jaguar XFR-levels of stiffness, whilst at the rear, there’s the “Integral Link” multi-link suspension.
The XE will also become the first Jaguar to be equipped with the latest generation Electric Power Assisted Steering, said to deliver the renowned Jaguar feel and response.
Designed and engineered in the UK, the new XE will be the first Jaguar manufactured at a new purpose-built production facility at the company's Solihull plant in the West Midlands in the UK.
