Mercedes has unveiled its updated eSprinter van, delivering a significantly increased range and support its plans to be a leader in electric mobility.

The new eSprinter arrives in Europe towards the end of 2023

Due for launch in Europe towards the end of 2023, the fully electric van will be available in two body styles and lengths, three battery sizes and with a high payload as a base for a large number of conversions and body variants.

Headline news is an increased WLTP range, which rises to 400km (248 miles) in the top-spec 113kWh battery compared to 95 miles for the current model. The line-up will also include 56kWh and 81kWh battery options.

The new model will also be able to charge at up to 115kW DC, giving a charge from 10 to 80% in around 28 minutes for the 56kWh battery and around 42 minutes for the 113kWh battery. The onboard charger enables AC charging at a wallbox up to 11kW.

Fleets will also have a choice of two electric motors, with either 134 or 201hp of power.

“With the new eSprinter, we are taking the electric large van segment to a new level. The triad of efficiency, range and load capacity with simultaneous TCO optimisation makes the new eSprinter the most versatile Mercedes-Benz eVan ever,” said Mathias Geisen, head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.

The updated eLCV will also come with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment tech with the latest software generation, marking its debut for the brand’s vans.

Features include navigation with ‘Electric Intelligence’ that shows the current range in real time depending on the current traffic situation and the route. It also calculates the best possible charging strategy to get to the destination as quickly as possible, or to have the desired state of charge (SoC) at the destination. Other highlights include increased performance, extensive personalisation options and optimisations of the “Hey Mercedes” voice control assistant.

The new eSprinter will join the existing eVito and the forthcoming eCitan, supporting the brand’s plans for all its new models to be fully electric from 2025.

Mercedes is also expanding the production network for the vans; alongside its plant in Düsseldorf, the new eSprinter will also be produced in Ludwigsfelde and Charleston in South Carolina in the US in the future.

The long-range eSprinter panel van will launch in the US and Canada in the second half of 2023, followed by Europe at the end of 2023. The cab chassis variant and other battery variants will follow gradually.
