The new model – the second electric car to be launched by the brand in the last six months following the eco-up! – uses an electric engine delivering 115hp and maximum torque of 270Nm. This gives a 0 to 100km time of 10.4 seconds along with a range of between 130 and 190km.

As well as its eco credentials, the model offers efficient running, consuming 12.7kWh, equating to €3.28 per 100 km.

The brand also promises that the e-Golf gets the same handling, ride and space as the original model as well as standard features including the “Discover Pro” radio/navigation system, heated windscreen, automatic climate control, parking heater and ventilation, leather steering wheel, aerodynamically optimised “Astana” alloy wheels and, being used for the first time by Volkswagen, full LED headlights. The new model also wears LED daytime running lights, with a signature C-shaped format to immediately identify the e-Golf as a Volkswagen electric vehicle.

To accompany the launch, VW will be launching a series of e-mobility weeks in March on the site of Berlin's former Tempelhof Airport, including an overview of VW’s electric mobility developments. From 14th to 16th March there will also be the opportunity for to test drive vehicles fitted with the new engine systems.
