Peugeot E-5008 packs in seven seats and 660km range

Peugeot has unveiled its E-5008 large SUV, complete with seven seats and up to 660km (410 miles) of range.

A major part of the brand’s E-Lion roadmap, it’ll also have a key role in the EV market in the nascent seven-seater SUV sector, likely as the cheapest model.

The first model to be built on an extended version of the Stellantis STLA Medium ‘BEV-by-Design’ platform, it’s essentially a larger and similar-looking version of the new E-3008 that benefits from a third row of seats.

Designed from the outset as an electric model, it will be offered with three different electric variants.

The entry-level Electric 210 Single Motor features a 213hp motor on the front axle connected to a 73kWh battery, giving a 500km (311-mile) WLTP range.

The Electric 230 Long Range Single Motor comes with a front-mounted 231hp motor and a 98kWh battery, giving the top 660km (410-mile) range (pending approval).

The Electric 321 Dual Motor AWD features the 213hp motor on the front axle and a 109hp motor at the rear, giving a total 322hp of power. It’s connected to a 73kWh battery with a 500km (311-mile) WLTP range (again awaiting approval).

The E-5008 also features charging capabilities of up to 160kW, a rapid DC charging time of 20% to 80% in 30 minutes, smart charging and vehicle-to-load capabilities.

Mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants will arrive later as part of the third-generation 5008 line-up. The E-5008 Hybrid 136 e-DCS6 will feature the Peugeot mild hybrid 48V system, which consists of a new-generation 136hp petrol engine coupled with a dual-clutch six-speed gearbox that incorporates an electric motor. Thanks to a battery that recharges while driving, this technology offers extra torque at low revs and a reduction of up to 15% in fuel consumption. In urban driving, it’s able to operate up to 50% of the time in 100% electric zero-emission mode.

The PHEV will combine a 125hp electric motor with a 150hp petrol engine, expected to have a 80km (50-mile) all-electric range.

Boot space with all seven seats upright stands at 259 litres. This rises to 748 litres with the rear row folded and then 1,815 litres with the middle row down.

The range will offer two versions, Allure and GT, with three option packs.

The Allure will feature keyless entry and start, rear HD camera, rear parking sensors, LED projectors and lights, 19-inch alloy wheels, Peugeot i-Cockpit with two 10-inch digital panels and the i-Connect connected information system, featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus TomTom 3D connected navigation with an integrated trip planner function. Natural voice recognition provides access to infotainment, heating and air conditioning functions, and the telephone as well as built-in ChatGPT, enabling interaction between the occupants and the vehicle.

The GT has a two-colour paint with a black roof and Alcantara upholstery, plus a powered tailgate as standard. It also comes with 20-inch alloy wheels, Pixel LED projectors, front parking sensors, heated front seats and steering wheel, induction smartphone charger, customisable ambient lighting, Panoramic i-Cockpit with a 21-inch curved screen, customisable i-Toggles and the i-Connect Advanced connected information system.

The new E-5008 is also covered for up to eight years/160,000km (100,000 miles) with the new Peugeot Allure Care programme.

The E-5008 will go on sale in the autumn of 2024. Prices will be announced closer to launch.
