Peugeot to launch Africa-only pick-up market
Peugeot is to return to the African pick-up market with the launch of a new model.
Reportedly a rebadged version of the Rich ute from Dongfeng – which took a 14% share in the carmaker three years ago – the Pick Up double cab compact model goes on sale in September and is aimed at meeting both professional and lifestyle requirements.
Measuring 5.08m long, the Pick Up uses a ladder chassis with a rigid rear axle and four-bladed springs.
The load zone has a bed that is 1.40m long and 1.39m wide, equipped with anchoring hooks on the outside. Maximum payload is 815kg and Peugeot also says it offers the most spacious and accommodating passenger interior in its class, with rear-seat roominess of 1,738 mm and knee space of 62 mm.
The engine line-up covers a 2.5-litre common rail turbo diesel engine with 115bhp and 280Nm, combined with a manual 5-speed gearbox. It is available in 4×4 and 4×2 versions.
Standard equipment includes manual air-conditioning, electric windows, radio with CD player and USB port along with ABS with brakeforce distribution, rear parking aids, passenger and driver air bags, plus electrically adjustable exterior mirrors.
