Peugeot has revealed its Instinct concept, which hints at the brand’s future autonomous plans.

Unveiled at Mobile World Congress Barcelona, the shooting brake concept combines a 300hp PHEV drivetrain with Drive Boost’, ‘Drive Relax’, Autonomous Soft’ and ‘Autonomous Sharp’ drive settings. Drive Boost is designed for a dynamic drive. Drive Relax uses the ADAS to assist the driver, including features such as automatic main beam switching or the active cruise control. Autonomous Soft mode is aimed more at comfort while Autonomous Sharp optimises journey times.

On board technology includes the Samsung Artik Cloud IoT platform, which syncs with the user’s devices. This enables the car to learn its user’s lifestyle and change settings for driving mode, seat and interface settings, ambient lighting and audio in line with routines. Examples include reading data from a smartwatch and changing to ‘Autonomous Soft’ mode to give the driver a relaxing ride home after a trip to the gym.

The concept also uses cameras in each LED headlamp which enable the car to scan the road ahead and communicate with the driving assistance systems.

The interior features a Responsive version of the Peugeot i-Cockpit interior architecture, which switches between driving and relaxing orientated schemes. When in ‘Autonomous’ mode, the compact steering wheel and toggle switch panel fold into the dashboard and the accelerator pedal folds back into the pedal unit to maximise space. The driver can also select bespoke positions for the seat base, seat back and headrest.

Passengers can also all communicate with the vehicle via a chatbot, a speech-driven personal assistant offering a vast array of services, including booking cinema tickets or buying online.
