Polestar seals record sales month with 10,000th UK registration
Polestar has reached the landmark of its 10,000th car registration in the UK on the back of a record sales month.
Newly published SMMT sales figures show that the Swedish electric performance car company delivered 1,069 Polestar 2 models in October – up 62% over the same period last year.
It’s the best month of sales for the model in the UK since its launch two years ago and the brand has mirrored its monthly growth with a YtD rise of 62%. The increase has been driven by demand in both the fleet and retail sectors as more businesses and private customers switch to fully electric cars.
“Polestar, through its direct-to-customer business model, is gathering serious momentum in the UK, now being one of the brand’s biggest markets globally. I am delighted that we have reached this milestone so soon after we introduced the Polestar 2 in 2020,” commented Jonathan Goodman, head of Polestar UK.
Other landmark achievements reported by Polestar this year include the opening of its largest ‘Space’ – its alternative to traditional dealerships – at Battersea Power Station in London and will follow with the opening of its UK Headquarters in December housing the commercial and customer care centre.
It’s also opened sales for its Polestar 3 electric SUV ahead of starting deliveries towards the end of the year, opening the brand up to the fastest-growing segment.
And the EV-only carmaker has signed a deal to provide rental giant Hertz with up to 65,000 electric vehicles over five years for both its retail and rideshare fleets.
Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath outlined last year that the brand will launch a new car every year for the next three years, starting with Polestar 3, and plans to increase its presence to at least 30 global markets by the end of 2023.
