The Cayenne S E-Hybrid is the first plug-in hybrid in its segment, though BMW has hinted that it will offer something similar in the new X5 in the near future. It is also Porsche’s third plug-in hybrid, after the 918 supercar and the Panamera S E-Hybrid, with which it shares its drivetrain.

Designed to offer performance and economy in one package, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid combines a 3.0-litre supercharged petrol engine producing 333PS, with a 95PS electric motor powered by a lithium-ion traction battery.

Combined, these can offer 416PS and allow the Cayenne to reach 100kph in 5.9 seconds, but the electric motor can also be used to drive the car between 18 and 36km at up to 125kph. Based on the NEDC plug-in hybrid combined cycle, fuel economy is 3.4l/100km with CO2 emissions of 79g/km.

The new Cayenne models will launch on the market starting 11th October. In Germany, the Cayenne Diesel will cost €66,260, the Cayenne S €80,183, the Cayenne S Diesel €82,087 and the Cayenne Turbo €128,378. The Cayenne S E-Hybrid will cost €82,087, which is exactly the price of a Cayenne S Diesel – and is around €1,000 less than the price of the previous Cayenne S Hybrid.
