PSA Group launches car sharing scheme in Madrid
The scheme – dubbed Emov – is the result of a JV between the PSA and EYSA groups and is being run under PSA’s new Free2Move mobility services brand.
Emov is based on a ‘free-floating’ car sharing premise that allows users to use a vehicle then drop it off at their convenience in Madrid. Users pay €0.19 per minute or €59 per day. The scheme covers an area that extends beyond Madrid’s city centre.
Signing up is carried out online on the www.emov.es website or via mobile iOS or Android apps. The service can be used 24 hours after signing up. The smartphone app allows users to reserve a vehicle free of charge 30 minutes before use. It is also used to lock and unlock the rented vehicle.
The scheme is also being run in partnership with Vulog, a European specialist in car sharing technology, which is providing an intelligent mobility platform with mobile applications, fleet management software and robust in-car technology to PSA Group.
The service enables free parking within the area covered and also ensures users aren’t affect by traffic restrictions in the event of pollution peaks. Users can also access areas reserved for residents and zones with temporary traffic restrictions.
Fernando Izquierdo, CEO of Emov, said: “Emov has arrived in Madrid with the intention of becoming one of the defining elements of this city. We are convinced that our fleet, which initially has 500 100%-electric vehicles, will be very well received by residents. In just a few days, more than 3,000 people have already signed up to the service, which allows us to feel very confident of Emov’s success.”
