PSA Peugeot Citroen and GM reveal details of alliance

The tie-up will cover three common vehicle platform development projects, firstly for a C-MPV for Opel/Vauxhall and a C-CUV for the Peugeot brand, then for a joint B-segment MPV and finally for an upgraded low CO2 B-segment platform that will underpin Opel/Vauxhall and PSA’s next generation of cars in Europe and other regions.

The carmakers added that additional joint vehicle projects are under review.

The first vehicles from the alliance are scheduled for launch in 2016 and GM and PSA Peugeot Citroen have stressed that the marques’ models will be ‘highly differentiated and fully consistent with their respective brand characteristics’.

The agreements also see the establishment of a joint purchasing organisation in Europe supported by a purchasing joint venture, subject to anti-trust approvals.

Further global initiatives will include the joint development of high-performance, efficient small gas engines derived from PSA’s global small petrol engine programme, as well as the exploration of product and industrial initiatives in Latin America or other growth markets.
