Range Rover Velar awarded five-star Euro NCAP safety rating
Land Rover’s new Range Rover Velar has become the latest SUV to scoop a five-star Euro NCAP rating.
Marking the 16th SUV tested by Euro NCAP since the start of 2016, the Velar – which sits between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport as the fourth member of the Range Rover family – secured an overall Euro NCAP rating of 84%, with Euro NCAP noting that in both the side barrier test and the more severe side pole impact, protection of all critical body areas was good and the Velar scored maximum points.
The Velar also scored 93% for adult occupant protection, 85% for child occupant protection and 74% for pedestrian protection, while its figure of 75% for assisted safety features was commented on by Euro NCAP member Thatcham Research, which highlighted that this comes in seven percentage points above average for the SUVs tested since January 2016. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems fitted to the Velar as standard include Interurban Autonomous Emergency Braking, an Adaptive Speed Limiter, Lane Departure Warnings and seat-belt reminders for all passengers.
The Velar is built on the same platform as Jaguar’s forthcoming F-Pace – which will be tested by Euro NCAP before the end of the year. For more of the latest industry news, click here.
