The Range Rover Velar is now being offered with a plug-in hybrid offering a 53km range, alongside new mild hybrid engines.

The Plug-In Hybrid Range Rover Velar ‘P400e’ offers customers an all-electric range of 53km and CO2 emissions of 49g/km

Part of a range update for 2021 that also brings Land Rover’s new Pivi infotainment system, the P400e already seen on models such as the Range Rover Sport now debuts in the brand’s mid-size luxury SUV.

The powertrain teams up a 300hp petrol engine and a 143hp electric motor, giving a total 404hp and 650Nm. The result is a 0-100km/h time of 5.4 seconds alongside fuel economy of up to 2.2l/100km and CO2 emissions from 49g/km.

The 17.1Wh lithium-ion battery is located under the boot floor and can be charged to 80% in 30 minutes using a fast DC charge point, or 1 hour 40 minutes using a standard 7kW wallbox.

A new family of 3.0-litre straight-six Ingenium engines is also introduced to the Range Rover Velar for the first time. The petrol and diesel engines include a D300 (300hp diesel) and P400 (400hp) petrol featuring 48V mild hybrid tech, all-wheel drive and standard air suspension.

The new P400 petrol generates 550Nm torque and delivers a 0-100km/h time of 5.5 seconds while the D300 diesel generates 650Nm torque, offers 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds and fuel economy of up to 7.4l/100km and CO2 from 194g/km.

An entry-level 204hp D200 four-cylinder diesel is also available, also featuring mild hybrid tech and bringing CO2 from 165g/km and fuel economy of up to 6.3l/100km.

The new Velar is also fitted with Land Rover’s latest infotainment system, Pivi and Pivi Pro, supported by over-the-air updates, plus Active Road Noise Cancellation for quieter journeys, a new cabin air filtration system and a second-generation wearable Activity Key, which can totally replace the traditional key fob when necessary.
