Like the facelifted i30 also revealed today, the i40 gains a hexagonal grille, as well as updated front and rear lamps, a new front bumper and new integrated LED fog lamps as introduced in Genesis. There’s also new 16- and 18-inch alloy wheels.

The diesel engine line-up comprises a 1.7-litre GDI unit in two states of tune offering 115PS and 141PS – the latter up by 3PS – and improved efficiency.

The 141PS version is also available with a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that provides improved fuel efficiency, and offers drivers fully automatic operation or manual gear changes through paddles on the steering wheel.

Other changes include the addition of Advanced Traction Cornering Control (ATCC) and the new Rear Electronic Damping Control System (ECS) for the Tourer.

Safety technology sees the addition of a new Smart High Beam (SHB) system, already seen on the Genesis, which monitors approaching traffic and automatically turns off the high beam to avoid dazzling other drivers. And a new Speed Limit Identification Function system checks roadside signs and displays a current speed limit alert to the driver via the new TFT display on the instrument panel. As with the ATCC and ECS systems, these two are also both subject to market specification.

Other changes see the addition of Hyundai’s latest navigation technology with enhanced touchscreen functionality.

The new i40 is due out early 2015, with prices and specifications due to be announced closer to the launch date.
