Refreshed Transit Custom goes on sale next month with 148g/km ECOnetic variant
Ford’s updated Transit Custom is available to order from next month, bringing an upgraded exterior and interior and a new 148g/km Econetic variant.
Available to order across Europe in December and scheduled for customer delivery from early 2018, the updated model will be joined by a zero-emission capable Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) derivative with an official range in excess of 30 miles and due in 2019 following its trials with London customers from next month.
Prior to that though fleets can opt models with the 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine, which was introduced to the range during 2016 in 105hp, 130hp and 170hp variants with a six-speed auto option, but also adds a new Econetic short wheelbase model.
The new Econetic version is based on the entry-level diesel and introduces bespoke calibration and Auto-Stop-Start, low rolling resistance tyres, Ford’s Acceleration Control feature, and a fixed 62mph speed limiter. As a result, it delivers 148g/km CO2 emissions and official 5.7 l/100km fuel economy, equating to a 6% improvement over the most efficient current vehicle.
The updated Transit Custom also brings a new design with a revised front-end including a three-bar grille and new signature LED daytime running lights and redesigned styling for the range-topping Sport model, as well as an upgraded cabin interior, said to bring best-in-class stowage, improved comfort and ergonomics, and easy connectivity with SYNC 3 or MyFord Dock options. Loadspace features include the load-through hatch in the bulkhead for extra-long items, and the integrated roof rack that can be folded away when not in use.
New technology and driver assistance features include an Intelligent Speed Limiter – claimed as a sector first – and Ford’s Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert while Kombi M1 models introduce a rear air suspension system on.
“Transit Custom has been a runaway success since it was introduced, and this new version raises the game once more,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Commercial Vehicles, Ford of Europe. “We have listened carefully to our customers, and delivered a one-tonne van that is even more stylish, even more productive, and packed with smart features.”
