Renault denies Mitsubishi cooperation

The statement follows a story in French newspaper La Figaro last Friday (31st May) saying that a tie-up with Mitsubishi was on the cards to enable Renault to expand in Asia.

In response, the Renault statement says: ‘Renault has had discussions in the past with Mitsubishi, for limited cooperations, as we have had with other carmakers. These discussions did not lead to any decisions. There is no cooperation between Renault and Mitsubishi.



‘Mitsubishi is a partner of Daimler and also works with Nissan in Asia since 2003.

The Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) and the Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. reached a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in June 2012 on the mutual supply of light-duty trucks in Japan. The agreement involves the Fuso Canter light-duty truck (5 tonnes GVW) and the Nissan Atlas F24 (below 5 tonnes GVW.’

The carmaker also commented on the recent announcement that the two companies have jointly developed minicars for the Japanese market

‘Nissan Motor Co Ltd and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation unveiled the names of their mini-cars that they co-developed for the Japanese market: the model names are Nissan DAYZ and DAYZ Highway STAR, and Mitsubishi eK Wagon and eK Custom.
