Renault unveils Talisman D-segment saloon
Not currently planned for sale in the UK or Ireland, the Talisman will bring saloon and estate versions and will make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the autumn.
Renault says the new name is meant to conjure up notions of both protection and power. Significantly, it’s also already used for the Chinese version of the Samsung SM7.
The carmaker added that the new model is set to play an active part in the renewal and upgrading of Renault’s high-end range. Both versions will be manufactured at the firm’s Douai plant in France.
Based on the CMF platform co-developed with Nissan, the Talisman measures 4,850mm long with a width of 1,870mm with a 2,810mm long wheelbase, with Renault promising best-in-class cabin space, plus boot space of 608 litres.
Styling seems the model gain a sleek, elegant design with the latest Renault face.
Inside, there are three interior trims and five equipment levels.
The engine range comprises two petrol units and three diesel powerplants and includes the Energy TCe 200 petrol unit and the Energy dCi 160 and Energy dCi 130 diesels also available for the new Espace.
The Energy TCe 150 and Energy TCe 200 units petrol units will be exclusively mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch EDC automatic transmission.
The diesels comprise the Energy dCi 110 unit plus the Energy dCi 130 unit, both of which are available with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed dual-clutch EDC transmission.
As in the new Espace, the Energy dCi 160 unit – equipped with twin turbos – will be exclusively mated to a six-speed dual-clutch EDC gearbox.
Emissions start at 95g/km for the 110hp Energy dCi unit.
Renault says the Talisman is the only D-segment saloon car to combine 4Control four-wheel steering with active damping
Other innovations include a seven-inch digital instrument display under the dashboard cowling, R-Link2 with 8.7-inch screen, colour head-up display technology, BOSE Surround Sound and hands-free parking.
Like the new Espace, the Talisman is equipped with Multi-Sense technology, which is said to bring more benefits in a saloon environment. The system offers Comfort, Sport, Eco and Neutral, plus a fully configurable Perso mode, and is responsible for operating the 4Control system, active damping, steering, engine and EDC transmission. It also covers the instruments, engine sound and ambient lighting.
