Silverstone Fleet Show 2014: Silverstone Circuit becomes "eco-driving" hub

By / 11 years ago / News / No Comments

The Fleet Show 2014 – organised by Fleet World magazine – will offer its audience of senior fleet decision-makers the opportunity to test drive a wide range of new cars and vans on a number of different race track scenarios.

Fleet Show event organiser Jerry Ramsdale explained: ‘If you mention the name "Silverstone", people immediately think of Formula One cars racing round in a high-octane, adrenaline fuelled drama. And quite rightly so – it’s an incredibly evocative place for anyone who has an interest in motorsport.

‘However, this year we’ve split the Grand Prix circuit in two, so we can use the National circuit for faster laps, and the International Circuit for road speed drives. We also have the off-road circuit for those wishing to try one of the many 4x4s on offer.

‘But we also cannot overlook the single most important factor in so many fleet decisions – CO2 emissions,’ said Ramsdale.

‘So, we are using the Stowe Circuit as an opportunity for those manufacturers with strong low-CO2 sub-brands to demonstrate not only the fuel efficiency of their cars, but also how to drive them in the most economical fashion.

‘The manufacturers have invested massive sums to improve the fuel efficiency of their cars and this will be a perfect opportunity to demonstrate how good they really are,’ he said.

A team of eco-driving experts will be available on the day to help fleet managers understand how they can achieve – or even exceed – the published fuel consumption figures for popular fleet cars.

A number of these will be fitted with highly sophisticated fuel and driver monitoring software so that drivers can see for themselves how they have performed on the circuit.

‘Through events like the MPG Marathon – our annual economy driving event - Fleet World is widely acknowledged as the industry’s thought leader where improving fuel consumption and reducing carbon footprints are concerned,’ continued Ramsdale.

‘The introduction of the "eco-driving hub" on Stowe Circuit will help fleet managers to understand all the factors affecting the size of their fuel and tax bills, and all the ways of improving them.

‘As well as professional eco-driving instructors, we hope to have a number of the fleet managers who have taken part in previous MPG Marathons with us on the day to prove that the skills they have developed are available to any fleet driver,’ he said.
