The top 17 true fleet brands all recorded increased volumes in Spain compared to 2015.

Following growth of 20.2% in December, the full-year market was up 15.4% on 2015. This compares to growth of 11.96% for the overall passenger car market of 1,192,418 units, and means that the 235,895 true fleet registrations accounted for almost 20% of the Spanish total market, growing its market share for the fourth year in a row.

The top 17 true fleet brands all recorded increased volumes compared to 2015. In December, the French car manufacturers put in a strong performance, with Renault in the lead – up +91.5% and achieving its best market share since October 2005. The biggest part of this increase came from the Megane, Clio and Captur models, where all three earned the December number one spot from their respective vehicle segments. Helped by a good performance in the last quarter, the Megane came very close to taking the crown as the number one fleet car for 2016 but was narrowly beaten by the SEAT Leon; the gap was no more than 136 registrations.

Meanwhile Dacia doubled its fleet registrations compared to December 2015, earning rank number nine and an all-time high market share of 4.7% for the Romanian manufacturer.

For the YTD vehicle segment the SUV continued to dominate, with a share of 29.7% followed by compact cars (24.8%) and small cars (15.2%). However, the middle class car group continued to lose ground with a share of 13.2% for full year 2016 and only 10.8% in December. This equates to the lowest percentage in the Spanish true fleet market ever for the likes of Volkswagen Passat, Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Opel Insignia and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
