The Stellantis siblings have revealed that with immediate effect only the electric versions of the Citroën Berlingo and SpaceTourer, Vauxhall/Opel Combo Life and Vivaro/Zafira Life and Peugeot Rifter and Traveller MPVs are being sold – all internal combustion models have been axed from the European line-ups.

All three brands said they were axing the internal combustion versions of their MPVs to accelerate their shifts to full electrification and due to the relevance and versatility of the electric models offered.

Opel CEO Uwe Hochgeschurtz explained: “There is no alternative to electrification. In the future, Opel will gain even more traction with environmentally friendly innovations. And what shows us the rapid change again very clearly: from 2024, we will offer an electrified version of every Opel model, without exception. In other words, the successors to Crossland and Insignia will also be electrified. Our statement is clear: from 2028, we will exclusively sell battery-electric vehicles in Europe.”

Linda Jackson, Peugeot CEO, added: “Peugeot is already at the spearhead of electric mobility; 75% of our passenger cars and 100% of our commercial vehicles are already available with an electrified powertrain. In 2021, every sixth vehicle sold by Peugeot in Europe was electrified and, in November, this reached one electrified Peugeot vehicle out of every five sold. This shows that we at Peugeot have the right offer for our customers and that the demand for electrified vehicles is consistently fast-growing.”

All existing customer orders for the ICE versions of the Stellantis MPVs will be honoured and a limited number of certain third-party specialist conversions, such as wheelchair-accessible vehicles, will continue.

The fuel-powered versions of the models will continue to be available for LCV versions and for markets outside Europe. Citroën will also continue to offer a fuel-powered version of the Grand C4 SpaceTourer.
