Targa Telematics expands insurance work with Drive-it acquisition

Targa Telematics is launching a new solution for the insurance sector following its acquisition of Drive-It.

The integration of the Drive-It business unit has enabled the launch of Targa Drive

Previously part of Earnix, the Israeli-based Drive-It business unit specialises in the analysis of driver behaviour using machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies.

The integration of the solution into the Targa portfolio has enabled the launch of Targa Drive – a comprehensive offering dedicated to revolutionising the digital transformation of the insurance sector.

Targa Drive is a UBI telematics solution based entirely on smartphones, combining an app capable of collecting a large set of data related to specific driving situations, such as braking, acceleration, driving distractions, speed or cornering. The solution also allows the user to distinguish car travel from other modes of transportation, as well as the driver from the passenger.

The application also enables predictive and personalised scores to be generated, which can be used by insurance companies to define the risk level of their policyholders. It complements the range of products for the insurance world from Targa Telematics and Viasat by analysing new sources of behavioural data, including distraction from driving, one of the most frequent causes of road accidents.

Nicola De Mattia, CEO of Targa Telematics, said: “We are continuing to invest in the integration of innovative companies that allow us to constantly raise the level of effectiveness of our solutions for designing the mobility of the future.

“By virtue of the synergies resulting from the integration of Drive-it’s know-how and state-of-the-art technologies, Targa Telematics will further strengthen its leadership in the insurance market, offering its clients an increasingly wide range of services, supporting them with personalisation, and making their products profitable.”
