TISPOL 2015 Conference to address protection of vulnerable road users in Europe
The conference takes place at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Manchester Airport, on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 October this year and will take the theme ‘We’re all more vulnerable than we think’.
The background to the event is that casualty rates for vulnerable road user groups are not falling as fast as for vehicle occupants, and in some countries (including the UK), rates are rising.
The Conference keynote address will be given by Edmund King, president of the AA, and the speaker line-up includes top-level representatives of the European Commission, the European Transport Safety Council, the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) and academic researchers and policy makers from the UK, Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands and Finland. Additionally, TISPOL president Aidan Reid and other representatives will be sharing their expertise.
Mr Reid commented: “We are committed to work together to tackling the problem of death and serious injury among the most vulnerable on our roads. There’s no single problem, and therefore no easy solution. But by coming together, establishing who is most at risk, what factors put them at risk and considering effective prevention strategies, we can revitalize efforts across Europe to reduce the number of people dying on our roads.”
