Toyota has premiered the C-HR+, the brand’s third electric car and a core model in its expanding EV offensive.

Debuted in a bumper showcase of news and launches from the Japanese brand, the midsized SUV will sit above the forthcoming Urban Cruiser and below the bZ4X, which is also being upgraded.

Developed from the Compact SUV concept presented in 2022, the new model was originally expected to carry on the ‘bZ’ branding.

Instead, it now shares a name with the existing hybrid and plug-in hybrid C-HR SUV but is “unequivocally an individual model in its own right”. Toyota says the ‘+’ addition to the moniker signifies added versatility and practicality and the specific qualities and benefits of the BEV powertrain.

Underpinned by the e-TNGA platform also used by the bZ4X, it will be available with 57.7kWh and 77kWh battery options and front- or all-wheel drive. Maximum WLTP range is up to 600km (373 miles).

Front-wheel-drive versions will pair up the 57.7kWh pack with a 167hp motor or the larger battery with a 224hp motor.

The AWD version comes solely with the 77kWh battery and will be one of the most powerful models in Toyota’s standard European model range, expected to deliver 343hp and 0-100km/h in 5.2 seconds.

An 11kW onboard charger is provided as standard, with a 22kW unit provided on higher-grade models. Fast DC charging can achieve speeds of up to 150kW. A battery pre-conditioning feature will improve charging performance in most conditions and the C-HR+ will come with an energy saving heat pump for the air conditioning system and heated seats, steering wheel and windscreen.

The MyToyota app allows owners to monitor and manage key aspects of their vehicle, including charging status, charging time, driving range and usage data.

Said to deliver a “superior driving experience”, the C-HR+ builds on the dedicated BEV platform with bespoke-tuned suspension and remapped electric power steering.

Sleek lines capture the coupé-SUV profile of the Toyota C-HR “in an eye-catching design that expresses strong styling dynamics”. Toyota also promises a “class above” cabin and load space with up to 416 litres of stowage.

Equipment includes a 14-inch multimedia display, two wireless smartphone chargers, rear cabin USB ports and air conditioning controls and a panoramic roof.

Toyota Safety Sense technologies will deliver early detection of a wide range of accident hazards and automatic activation when needed of braking, steering and power control to help the driver avoid an impact.

A number of advanced features are provided as standard, including a blind spot monitor, adaptive high-beam system headlights and parking support brake. Park assist and a panoramic view monitor feature on higher grades.

The C-HR+ will launch in the UK and selected European markets in late 2025, prior to a full rollout to all European markets starting in 2026.
