The company says the crossover reveals ‘innovative vision for a compact crossover model’.

It added that the concept combines a ‘powerful new design language with an engaging driving experience and a hybrid powertrain’.

The motor show will also mark the first European appearance of the finalised exterior design of Toyota's Fuel Cell Sedan, which is due to be launched in Europe next year.

Meanwhile Toyota is also to present a concept vehicle inspired by America’s new urban DIY movement at the World Maker Faire in New York this coming weekend.

The firm says that do-it-yourself is enjoying a big revival in American cities and its new small SUV “Urban Utility” concept car – dubbed U2 – taps into this with an open architecture and robust materials along with a roll-back roof and a tailgate that can be folded down to create a ramp. There’s also a rail system to aid customisation.
