UK sets date for world-first Zero Emissions Vehicle Summit
Birmingham in the UK is to host the first-ever international Zero Emissions Vehicle Summit, which will bring together countries from across the world to further the low-emission and electric vehicle sectors.
First announced by the UK Prime Minister at the One Planet Summit in Paris last December, the summit will be held on 11 September at Birmingham’s International Conference Centre and will be attended by world leaders as well as industry experts, agencies, academics and financial institutions. It will continue at the 2018 Cenex-LCV low carbon vehicle event at Millbrook Proving Grounds on 12 September.
Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said: “This ground-breaking event shows Britain leading the way in developing the new technology that will create new jobs and help improve the air we breathe.
“And with a proud history in pioneering vehicle manufacturing, Birmingham is exactly the right location to showcase the innovations of the future.”
James Court, head of policy and external Affairs at the UK’s Renewable Energy Association, welcomed the news, saying: “It is encouraging that the PM is putting political capital behind this critical project, as government vision and support is vital if we are going to realise the goal of being a global leader in low-carbon transport.”
