Updated Ford Kuga lands with improved hybrids and new Active model
Ford has given its bestselling Kuga SUV a mid-life facelift, adding in a new Active model and enhanced hybrid engines.
First launched in 2008 and now in its third generation, the new-look Kuga also gains new levels of capability, connectivity and comfort, while prices start from £32,080 – down by £1,000 on the outgoing version.
Trim levels start with Titanium, rising to ST-Line, Active and the top-tier ST-Line X. The Active version is a new arrival for the Volkswagen Tiguan and Nissan Qashqai rival. Already seen in other Ford models, it brings more rugged looks and raised suspension.
All Kuga models get revised exterior looks that deliver a new full-width LED light bar and front grille design. Full LED headlights including Automatic High Beam Control come as standard while Dynamic Pixel LED headlights are an option.
The interior has also been revamped with a 13.2-inch landscape touchscreen as standard and Ford’s latest-generation Sync 4 infotainment system. This offers twice the computing power of the previous system and features 5G connectivity for fast access to information, cloud-connected navigation, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Alexa Built-in is also standard, so drivers and passengers can ask questions or make commands without a smartphone connected.
Also new for 2024 is Trailer Tow Navigation, which enables drivers to enter the dimensions of their car and trailer so that Sync 4 can select a route to help avoid tight turns, low bridges and other obstacles.
The Kuga PHEV is carried over but now tweaked to offer an official 69km (43-mile) electric-only range, while delivering up to 900km (560 miles) of driving range on a single tank of fuel.
The engine line-up also features a 150hp 1.5-litre petrol with a six-speed manual gearbox, plus the 180hp 2.5-litre petrol hybrid that’s available with either front- or all-wheel drive. The latter is able to two up to 2,100kg.
Advanced driver assistance technologies include new-generation Adaptive Cruise Control while the 360-degree camera system offers an aerial view to make parking a breeze.
“The Ford Kuga has been a hit with customers since it was first launched in 2008. The new Kuga is our best ever, moving the game forward with new levels of capability, connectivity and comfort,” said Jon Williams, general manager, Ford Blue, Europe.
