Visitor registrations open for 2013 TISPOL “Improving Road Safety” conference
The theme for the Conference is “Improving Road Safety: Solutions that Work” and the speaker line-up includes top-level representatives of the European parliament, the European Commission, the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), the Irish, Norwegian, Spanish, German and Belgian Traffic Police, as well as academic researchers from the UK, Austria, Finland, Netherlands and Finland. Other key representatives from TISPOL will also be sharing their expertise.
The conference will be chaired by Noel Brett, chief executive of Ireland’s Road Safety Authority, with the keynote address given by Szabolcs Schmidt, head of the European Commission’s Road Safety Unit. Also contributing to a European overview of road safety will be TISPOL president Koen Ricour.
Other conference sessions will include: enforcement – sanctions, penalties and rehabilitation, presentations on best practice in penalty and demerit points, retraining for offenders and roadside interventions, presentations on revitalising the road safety message, developing 24-hour speed enforcement marathons and reinforcing messages to young people.
There will be a case study presentation on safety improvements for pedestrians in Dublin, as well as presentations on cyclist and pedestrian enforcement and reducing cyclist collisions.
Presentations will also be given on alcolock effectiveness, drug driving enforcement, vehicle technology and future developments.
This year’s conference will also introduce a line-up of short new videos, which will be shown during each of the conference sessions. General Secretary Ian Hamill commented: ’We intend this year’s programme to be as practical and useful as possible, by showcasing examples of good practice and how they have successfully been adapted to work elsewhere.
‘Our line-up of speakers and the TISPOL representatives from across Europe are committed to sharing their success stories and ensuring the conference outputs are practical and useful, too.’
