Vodafone Qutar has teamed up with the Qatar Mobility Innovations Center.

The technology is intended to help fleets reduce fuel use and carbon emissions as well as increase efficiency through enhanced job allocation helped by real-time traffic data. It can also monitor driver behaviour to encourage safer and more efficient driving and reduce insurance premiums.

The service is underpinned by Vodafone’s Global Internet of Things (IoT) Platform that was launched in Qatar earlier this year and combines a QMIC Masarak Telematics tracking device coupled with a Vodafone Global SIM, which is installed in the vehicle.

The device sends event reports via SMS, e-mail and pop-up signals, with the customer able to access the tracking portal on a computer.

Fleets will also have 24-hour access to Vodafone’s business care team.

“We are confident that our global expertise in IoT solutions and in delivering fleet management services coupled with QMIC’s locally engineered innovations and knowledge will eliminate challenges companies in Qatar face in managing their fleet of vehicles. Ultimately this service will improve productivity, improve safety and significantly reduce costs,” said Ian Gray, chief executive officer, Vodafone Qatar.
