Volkswagen begins work on new plant in Qingdao, East China

The joint venture FAW-Volkswagen will build a factory to produce 300,000 sedans and SUVs a year when complete in three years’ time.

The production kicked off with a groundbreaking ceremony held in the coastal city of Shandong province.

Prof Dr Jochem Heizmann, member of the board of management of Volkswagen AG with responsibility for China and president and CEO of Volkswagen Group China, Xu Jianyi, chairman of FAW Group, government officials of the Qingdao city, laid the foundations for the new vehicle plant.
