Volkswagen confirms only nine models have CO2 "discrepancies"
In November, the Volkswagen suggested that up to 800,000 vehicles could be affected, initially releasing a list of 2016 model year petrol and diesel models which had “discrepancies” in the factory-issued economy figures.
Internal investigations since are said to have shown only “slight deviations” for nine models within the Volkswagen brand, equating to a few grams of CO2 per kilometre, and small differences in fuel consumption. These vehicles will be remeasured before Christmas, with new figures to be released as soon as possible– there will be no recall, and real-world economy will be unaffected.
Within the Volkswagen range, the affected models comprise:
- Polo 1.0 TSI BlueMotion DSG
- Golf 2.0 TDI BMT 150PS (manual)
- Golf Convertible 2.0 TDI BMT 110PS (manual)
- Jetta 1.2 TSI 105PS BMT (manual)
- Jetta 2.0 TDI BMT 110PS (manual)
- Scirocco 2.0 TDI 184PS (manual)
- Passat Estate 2.0 TDI SCR 4MOTION 239PS DSG
- Passat Estate 1.4 TSI ACT BMT 150PS (manual)
- Passat Alltrack 2.0 TSI 4MOTION BMT 220PS DSG
These equate to annual production of around 36,000 units per year, or 0.5% of the brand’s global volume. Audi, SEAT and Skoda have yet to confirm which models are affected. Volkswagen says, in light of its findings, the negative impact on earnings of €2bn that was originally expected has not been confirmed. Actual economic impact will depend on remeasurement.
