Volkswagen ID.7 racks up 941km on single charge
Volkswagen’s fully electric ID.7 has beaten its own range record in efficiency tests.
A standard ID.7 Pro S with no technical modifications was tested on a circuit in Nardò, southern Italy and achieved 584 miles (941km) of range.
The figure significantly exceeded the model’s official WLTP combined figure of 440 miles (709km) by 144 miles (232km) or 32.7%.
The saloon-cum-hatchback, equipped with an 86kWh battery, consumed 9.2kWh/100km in the efficiency drive.
However, the average speed during the efficiency test was a rather leisurely 18mph (29km/h), which VW said corresponds to typical rush-hour speeds in large cities. Latest Traffic Index figures from TomTom indicate such figures range from 13mph (22km/hr) in Hamburg to 31km/h (19mph) in Amsterdam.
Volkswagen credited the strong aerodynamics and economical yet powerful APP550 electric motor for the efficiency of the ID.7 Pro S.
Martin Sander, member of the Board of Management responsible for Sales, Marketing, After Sales at the Volkswagen brand, said: “We are seeing a positive trend in incoming orders in Europe and are currently selling more ID.7 models than Passat.
“This shows that the ID.7 is a meaningful all-electric addition to the brand’s product portfolio and, in addition to our successful Passat, is also suitable for long-distance drivers and as a company car.”
