Volkswagen introduces new GTX performance badge on ID.4 electric SUV
Volkswagen has revealed a 299hp GTX version of its ID.4 electric SUV, introducing a new performance badge.
Unveiled at its world premiere in Berlin on a ramp with a 37.5% incline, the ID.4 GTX launches in Europe in summer 2021.
It features a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup – a first for the ID range – giving the ID.4 GTX a 0-100km/h (0-62mph) time of 6.2 seconds, an electronically limited top speed of 180km/h (112mph) and a range of up to 480km (298 miles).
The new GTX will sit within the ID line-up as an electric equivalent of VW’s existing GTI, GTE and GTD performance product lines.
It’s expected to boost VW’s electrification work; the brand wants to increase the sale of purely electric vehicles in Europe to 70% by 2030.
Design features will reflect a connection to the GTI line and include honeycomb elements around the daytime running lights and a 3D tail-light cluster with brake lights that form an X.
Prices for the UK are yet to be announced but in Germany, it will start at an entry-level price of €50,415 (around £43,800).
