Volkswagen has given a first glimpse of its upcoming ‘baby’ EV that will “deliver mobility for everyone”.

Debuted as the ID.Every1 show car, it previews an entry level electric car that’s due 2027 and will be priced from around €20,000 (£17,000) with at least 250km (155 miles) of range.

The spiritual successor to the Up!, it’s part of the new Electric Urban Car Family developed under the umbrella of the Brand Group Core within the Volkswagen Group and featuring models developed on the latest evolution of VW’s modular electric drive (MEB) platform with front-wheel drive.

This new product family will also include the production version of the ID. 2all concept; a roughly Polo-sized model due to reach dealerships in 2026 as Volkswagen’s first all-electric small car – at a base price of some €25,000 (c.£20,800).

With a length of 3,880mm, the ID. Every1 is positioned between the former Up! (3,600mm), the ID. 2all (4,050mm) and the current Polo (4,074mm). The cabin offers space for four people and a luggage compartment volume of 305 litres.

The concept is powered by a newly developed 95hp electric motor and has a top speed of 130km/h (80mph).

It’ll also come with a “smart and flexible” approach teaming up sporty design, a versatile interior and digital features to make the model “attractive for private customers and B2B customers as well as for delivery and care services”.

Design will focus on a “characteristic” look with charisma and identity to create a car that “has a self-assured appearance but remains likeable – thanks to details such as the dynamic front lights and the ‘smiling’ rear”.

The production version of the ID. Every1 will be the first model across the entire Volkswagen Group to use a new, “particularly powerful” software architecture that enables lifelong updates and upgrades of the production model. This means that VW’s baby EV can be equipped with new functions throughout its entire lifecycle.

Volkswagen says the European launch of the all-electric Urban Car Family from 2026 will give it the most diverse portfolio in the high-volume segment – from efficient combustion-engine models and advanced hybrids to future-orientated all-electric vehicles.

Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, said: “The ID. Every1 represents the last piece of the puzzle on our way to the widest model selection in the volume segment. We will then offer every customer the right car with the right drive system – including affordable all-electric entry-level mobility.

“Our goal is to be the world’s technologically leading high-volume manufacturer by 2030. And as a brand for everyone – just as you would expect from Volkswagen.”

Volkswagen is planning for nine new models by 2027, including four electric models based on the new modular electric drive (MEB) platform with front-wheel drive. The brand also says it plans to become the technologically leading high-volume manufacturer with the safest, most innovative and best-selling cars by 2030.
