Volkswagen has announced engine line-up and specifications for new Tiguan Allspace.

Providing a rival to models such as the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Skoda Kodiaq, the Allspace is a stretched version of the standard Tiguan that will be sold as a five-seater offering extra space or with the option of seven seats to extend versatility.

Intended to fill the gap between the standard Tiguan and Touarag, the Allspace sits on a 109mm longer wheelbase with a 215mm longer exterior length. In five-seat version, it brings an extra 145 litres of space with the seats up, standing at 760 litres. This rises to 1,920 litres with the seats folded flat; up by 265 litres on the standard Tiguan. In the optional 5+2 layout, the Allspace will bring 230 litres of space, rising to 1,775.

Six engines will be offered in Europe. Petrol units cover a 150hp 1.4-litre TSI plus 180hp and 220hp 2.0-litre units, along with 150hp, 190hp and 240hp 2.0-litre TDI diesels. All TDI engines are equipped with an SCR catalytic converter and a 12-litre AdBlue tank.

The lowest-emitting model is the 150hp front-wheel drive Tiguan Allspace 1.4 TSI with 135g/km and 6.0l/100km.

Front-wheel and all-wheel drive version are offered. Front-wheel drive versions offer capability for large trailer loads of up to 2,200 kg (braked on 8% incline) depending on the engine version; in the all-wheel drive, this increases to 2,500 kg. Volkswagen is also offering a swivelling tow-bar as an option.

Equipment details in Europe include 17-inch alloys and roof rails as standard along with granite grey underbody protection.

As with the standard Tiguan, the Allspace is available in on-road and off-road versions of the front section, with the latter offering optional “off-road package” together with special engine underbody protection that extends to the bumper for off-road driving. The off-road front section improves the vehicle’s approach angle by 7 degrees.

European trims include the entry-level Trendline version which brings air con, leather steering wheel, LED tail lights, rain sensor, Lane Assist, Front Assist with City Emergency Braking function and Pedestrian Monitoring as well as the Composition Touch Infotainment system. In Germany, 17-inch alloy wheels and the Composition Colour Infotainment system can also be added.

Comfortline adds in Park Pilot, split and sliding rear seats, folding tables with cup holders on the backs of the front seats, remote seatback release and the Driver Alert System.

The top-of-the-range Highline model also includes 18-inch alloy wheels, a silver front spoiler, silver roof rails, full LED headlights, full-LED tail lights with extended LED functions, leather multifunction steering wheel and gear lever grip as well as adaptive chassis control (DCC).

As with the facelifted Golf, the Allspace will also feature the new generation Discover Pro Infotainment system with gesture control.

Advanced sales of the Tiguan Allspace start in May, with deliveries in the first European countries to start from September. Prices in Germany will start from about €30,000.
