Volkswagen reveals US-bound Atlas Cross Sport SUV coupé
Volkswagen has unveiled the five-seater version of the Volkswagen Atlas at its assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Previewed by the concept at the New York International Auto Show last year, the Atlas Cross Sport joins the seven-seater mid-size Atlas already on sale in North America, Russia and the Middle East, which has sold 175,000 units since the start of 2017. It’s slightly shorter (13mm) than its bigger brother and brings more rakish styling along with redesigned front and rear lights and an updated rear bumper, plus an optional R-Line package.
The Atlas Cross Sport is Volkswagen’s third SUV derivative for the North American market, and features a 235hp 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine as standard, with a 276hp V6 available as an option. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This makes it possible to two trailers weighing up to 2.4 tons. The Atlas Cross Sport is also available with the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.
Volkswagen has no plans to bring the Atlas Cross Sport to Europe.
