The model, which is available in saloon and estate ‘Variant’ bodystyles, is already open for advance sales in some European markets and plays a key role in the brand’s electric motoring strategy following the launch of the Golf GTE.

The drivetrain is similar to that of the Golf GTE and features a 154bhp 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine and 114bhp electric motor, which combine to produce 215bhp and propel the Passat to 62mph in under eight seconds.

In Europe, emissions for both models stand at 39 to 37g/km with official NEDC fuel consumption of 1.7 to 1.6l/100km.

The E-Mode can be used for up to 50km and can be deployed at the touch of a button.

Equipment includes Driver Alert System, Automatic Post-Collision Braking, the Front Assist ambient traffic monitoring system including City Emergency Braking function, a rain sensor and ParkPilot for front and rear.

The Passat GTE also brings unique styling features including a completely redesigned bumper with a C-shaped LED daytime running light signature, as seen on the brand’s other plug-in and electric models, and bespoke 17-inch alloys.
