Scheduled to go on sale from mid-July, the new model – available in five, six and seven-seat versions, is up to 14.3% more efficient. Two petrol TSI units and three TDI units are available and offer 115 to 220hp.

The TSI engines deliver 150hp and 220hp (a gain of 20hp) respectively, with the 150hp version offering a combined fuel consumption figure of 6.4l/100 km in combination with the standard manual transmission.

The TDI engines are available at three power levels: 115hp, 150hp (gain of 10hp) and 184hp (gain of 7hp). The two lower-powered versions have an official combined consumption of 5.0l/100 km in combination with the six-speed manual gearbox. All diesel engines are fitted with an SCR catalytic converter. Also standard on all models are Stop-Start and brake energy recovery systems.

All engines bar the smallest diesel can now be specified with an automatic six-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG), which now provides a 'coasting' function for additional fuel-saving. The DSG transmission is included as standard with the top 220hp engine. As an alternative, the 150hp TDI engine is also available with 4MOTION all-wheel drive.

The updated model also brings updated infotainment systems that include 'MirrorLink', 'CarPlay' from Apple and 'Android Auto' for the first time.

New driver assistance systems are also featured and see the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System included as standard. There’s also the optional Front Assist traffic monitoring system, the City Emergency Braking function and, for the first time, the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system is also available on the Sharan.
