VW to show Juke rival and refreshed up! at Geneva

The compact SUV could be positioned below the Tiguan in Volkswagen’s line-up, a new and potentially very high-volume segment for the brand that would contest cars such as the Nissan Juke, Vauxhall Mokka and Renault Captur.

Volkswagen hasn’t revealed any details yet, but it’s likely that this will be an ongoing development of the Taigun concept shown two years ago. The new concept car is said to feature a near button-free interior, a development of the cabin in the BUDD-e electric showcar from this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The crossover will be displayed alongside subtle update for the up! city car, which gets revised styling including new headlights a rear diffuser, new tail lights and a few additions to its paint palette and customisation options list. A new Android and iOS-compatible phone dock will display functions from the car on external devices, as well as offering media playback.

Launching later this year, the up! will also include the highest-performance model yet. This will use the 90hp 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine shared with the Polo, reaching 100kph in around 10 seconds and offering a fuel consumption of 4.4 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 102g/km, subject to final testing. The 60hp and 75hp 1.0-litre engines will continue to be available in the new model. Expect prices to be announced after its debut.
