So say participants of the forthcoming 2013 World Biofuels Markets Congress and Exhibition, which is organised by Green Power Conferences and takes place from the 12th to 14th March in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has said that industry and policy stakeholders need to continue to address the economic, environmental and social challenges that the biofuels sector is facing to ensure such fuels are a sustainable part of our future energy mix.

Green Power Conferences’ CEO, Nadim Chaudhry, added: ‘The biofuels market is a vital part of the renewable energy landscape, but misinformation continues to be spread that the sector is unsustainable. We need to employ technology and innovative products to show that a sizeable part of the global fuel mix can be grown and a broader bio-economy can exist. We have to demonstrate that it can match the scale and output of the petrochemical industry and be done sustainably – without impacting virgin land or global food production.’

World Biofuels Markets will bring together around 1,500 participants from governments, businesses, purchasers, policy makers, banks, non-governmental organisations, academics and influencers to discuss and exchange intelligence on renewable energy vital in achieving global energy security.

Mr Chaudhry continued: ‘Biofuels are one of the most sustainable agricultural products there is to date.’

‘We now need political support to help the public understand the merits of sustainable biofuels. It does not need to be “food versus fuel”, it can be food and fuel,’ he concluded.
