Arval repositions as sustainable mobility specialist

Arval is taking steps to become a self-proclaimed leader in all sustainability solutions, underpinned by a revised business model and ambitious targets for 2025.

The company has set its sights on having two million leased cars in 2025, including 500,000 electrified vehicles, and the new ‘Arval Beyond’ strategic plan will take it from its current focus on full-service leasing to embracing all sustainability solutions – including but not limited to cars – to ensure it remains “one step ahead of the game”.

The business said its previous five-year plan has seen an average leased fleet growth of 7.4% since 2015 and a 6.6% growth in September 2020, despite the Covid-19 pandemic. It currently has 1.3 million leased vehicles, of which around one million are cars.

The new business model is built on a test-and-learn approach that Arval said has already proved successful, with offers and partnerships developed in its local entities and with its clients.

“Arval Beyond strategy is a five-year plan that encompasses this new mindset, with a strong ambition: not only strengthening our historical business model, but going beyond it to become the industry benchmark in terms of sustainable mobility solutions,” said Alain Van Groenendael, Arval chairman and CEO.

The ambitions are supported by four new propositions.

These include the 360° Mobility concept, which ensures Arval provides all its corporate clients and their employees, in all its geographies, with the sustainable and state-of-the-art mobility options they need, such as e-bike leasing, car sharing and micro-mobility solutions, mobility-as-a-service applications. In 2025, 100% of Arval countries will offer alternative and sustainable mobility products or services.

Arval is also aiming to become a key leader in energy transition and sustainability by helping customers to protect the environment and create safer roads, under the ‘Good for you, good for all’ banner. This will provide integrated EV offers and ways to facilitate EV adoption – such as offering the possibility to switch to a combustion engine for several weeks per year. The measures will support its plans for 500,000 electrified vehicles on the road in 2025, as well as registering a 30% reduction in its fleet’s average CO2 emissions, and a 10% decrease in its overall accident rate.

Arval will also help drivers enter a “new era” of mobility through its Connected & Flexible premise. By 2025, more than 80% of Arval’s fleet will be connected and will offer a wider set of services to make the driver’s life easier, such as automatic payment of street parking, remote booking of car washes and voice assistant services.

Arval will also extend the current mindset on partnerships to other stakeholders under ‘Arval Inside’. In 2025, 100% of Arval countries will have signed successful partnerships with international or strong local players.

Alain Van Groenendael added: “With this new plan, we are committed to delivering an integrated mobility experience for our customers, to providing them support during the energy transition, simplicity through connected and flexible products and services, and to co-building added value and innovative offers with new partners.”
