Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturer Foton is set to debut in the UK through a strategic distribution agreement with International Motors Ltd (IML).

Foton will bring its new-generation LCV line-up to the UK in partnership with International Motors

The partnership will leverage International Motors’ UK network and expertise to roll out Foton’s new-generation electric van line-up.

Foton, which has sold over 12 million vehicles worldwide, said the UK is a key market in its global electric vehicle growth strategy.

Founded 30 years ago and headquartered in Beijing, Foton’s business spans a full range of commercial vehicles, including medium- and heavy-duty trucks, light-duty trucks, mini trucks, vans, pickup trucks, buses and construction machinery.

Foton electric truck, van and bus products are already established in European markets such as Italy, Germany and Malta.

Its expansion into the UK in partnership with International Motors provides Foton with an established and solid reputation with nearly 50 years of expertise in the UK market.

International Motors is renowned for its services as a distributor for automotive manufacturers in the UK, Ireland and Northern Europe. This includes Mitsubishi, which is returning to the UK new car and pickup market this summer, partnered with International Motors, which has handled aftersales, parts and servicing for the Japanese brand since its exit in 2021.

William Brown, managing director at International Motors, said: “We are delighted to formally announce our partnership as the official UK distributor for Foton. This new long-term agreement demonstrates IML’s ambition to seek alliances with forward-thinking partners that share the company’s vision and go-to-market strategy. We look forward to working with Foton in launching its impressive light commercial vehicle range to UK customers throughout 2026.”

Ren Lixian, deputy general manager of Foton Europe, said: “Our new partnership with International Motors marks an important step in Foton’s global commitment.

“We are thrilled to bring our innovative and exciting light commercial vehicle range to the UK, a pivotal and important market in Europe, and look forward to showcasing products to customers. Partnering with International Motors is a vital part of our entry to the market, and we are proud to have formed this partnership in the UK.”
